Billie Eilish relies on her family and horseback riding to cope with the stress and loneliness brought on by fame.

The singer, who released her latest album Happier Than Ever at the end of last month, admitted that she is naturally a sociable person who needs to be around people – but her fame means she often has to. turn to family to avoid loneliness.

“I really don’t like being alone,” she told The Guardian. “I like having anonymity or autonomy, but I’m really upset when I’m alone. I hate it. I have a lot of stalkers, and I have people who want to hurt me, and I am also panicked by the darkness and, like, what’s under the beds and sofas.

“I have a lot of weird and irrational fears. So I’m still often with my parents. I just love my parents and I really love being here. It’s very heartwarming.”

In order to help cope with the stress of being one of the world’s most famous teenage girls, she took up an old hobby – riding a horse.

“I am an equestrian,” she explained. “And it gives a lot of adrenaline and needs a lot of strength, and it’s exhausting. It’s a great stress relief for me. I’ve been less angry and emotional since I got back into it.”

Although she relies on her family, which includes her writing partner and brother Finneas O’Connell, to get her through tough times, she admits that they are struggling.

“My family, my God, makes me so angry. Oh my family is like everyone else,” added the 19-year-old. “There is anger – and love, so it kind of balances out.”

She also regrets that she no longer feels able to use social media easily – as people can misinterpret her comments.

“With social media, I can’t use it that much because it will live there forever, and everyone except the fans will see it too,” she noted. “So that’s boring. It’s like you want to whisper a secret to a friend of yours, but whispering it they had a microphone in their ear, and it was shooting 80 million people.”
