Coach Charlie Appleby and Godolphin appear to have a pair of aces for the $ 2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf in Modern Games and Albahr, the top two betting picks in the future overseas market for the one-mile event in Del Mar on November 5th.
Modern Games, the favorite 3-1 off, has won three of five starts in England. He was quickly entered in the Breeders’ Cup by Appleby after winning the Somerville Stakes (G3) on September 23 across seven stadiums in Newmarket.

Albahr, at a price of 4-1, has won four straight wins in England, including a pair of bets. Albahr and Modern Games are both sons of the first stallion Dubawi.
Albahr won the one-mile Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury in August and was then sent to North America to compete in the Summer Stakes (G1) at Woodbine. In the one-mile summer, Albahr was near the back of the field before throwing a bid under Frankie Dettori and clinching the 2 1/4 length victory over Juvenile Turf contender Grafton Street.
Top domestic prospects include Annapolis for Hall of Fame coach Todd Pletcher and Mackinnon for Doug O’Neill.
Annapolis is 2 for 2 for owner-breeder Bass Racing. By War Front and ranked winner My Miss Sophia, Annapolis was a first 4 1/2 length winner who completed two rounds at Saratoga in early September. A month later, Annapolis picked up the pace of high-stakes competition in the 1 1/16 mile (G2) Pilgrim Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park. juvenile turf.
Mackinnon has won three straight wins, including two on Del Mar turf. American Pharoah’s son graduated on the Seaside Oval on July 31, then returned to win the Del Mar Juvenile Turf from a mile on September 6. Mackinnon settled in the middle of the peloton before launching a late push to clear and win by 2 1/4 lengths.
Pre-registrations for the Juvenile Turf and all other Breeders’ Cup races will be accepted until Monday. Preliminary fields will be announced Wednesday starting at 11:30 a.m. EDT, which can be viewed on TVG or Breederscup.com.
